چکیده

We present an algorithmic analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture for large-scale parallel quantization of internally analog variables in externally digital array processors. The converter quantizes and accumulates a binary weighted sequence of partial binary-binary matrix-vector products computed on the analog array, under presentation of bit-serial inputs in descending binary order. The architecture combines algorithmic conversion of the residue, as in a standard algorithmic ADC, with synchronous accumulation of the partial products from the array. In conjunction with row-parallel digital storage of matrix elements in the array, two pipelined architectures are presented to accumulate partial products with common binary weight across rows: row-parallel ADC with digital post-accumulation, and row-cumulative ADC with analog pre-accumulation. Simulation results are presented to quantify the trade-off in precision and area for full-parallel flash, and row-parallel and row-cumulative partial algorithmic, analogto-digital conversion on the array.

Modeling and Simulation of Substrate Noise in Mixed-Signal Circuits Applied to a Special VCO

The mixed-signal circuits with both analog and digital blocks on a single chip have wide applications in communication and RF circuits. Integrating these two blocks can cause serious problems especially in applications requiring fast digital circuits and high performance analog blocks. Fast switching in digital blocks generates a noise which can be introduced to analog circuits by the common su...

Stochastic Mixed-Signal VLSI Architecture for High-Dimensional Kernel Machines

A mixed-signal paradigm is presented for high-resolution parallel innerproduct computation in very high dimensions, suitable for efficient implementation of kernels in image processing. At the core of the externally digital architecture is a high-density, low-power analog array performing binary-binary partial matrix-vector multiplication. Full digital resolution is maintained even with low-res...

Improving adaptive resolution of analog to digital converters using least squares mean method

This paper presents an adaptive digital resolution improvement method for extrapolating and recursive analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The presented adaptively enhanced ADC (AE-ADC) digitally estimates the digital equivalent of the input signal by utilizing an adaptive digital filter (ADF). The least mean squares (LMS) algorithm also determines the coefficients of the ADF block. In this sch...

Design and performance of the ALICE TRD front-end electronics

The Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) of the ALICE experiment at CERN incorporates 1.2 million channels which are individually read out and processed. The front-end electronics (FEE) utilizes two custom chips: an 18 channel analog preamplifier and shaper (PASA) and a mixed-signal chip, performing 10 bit analog-to-digital conversion, event buffering and local tracking (TRAP). Both chips togeth...

ADAP: A Mixed-Signal Array Processor With Early Vision Applications

Many early vision tasks require only 6 to 8 b of precision. For these applications, a special-purpose analog circuit is often a smaller, faster, and lower power solution than a general-purpose digital processor, but the analog chips lack the programmability of digital image processors. This paper presents a programmable mixed-signal array processor which combines the programmability of a digita...
